What: Interviewer conducts street interviews inside and around a Canada First rally focused on opposition to high immigration levels, particularly from India. Where: Toronto, Canada (Christie Pits / city park)

When: September 2025

Why: Toronto's Christie Pits park has history — it was the site of the 1933 antisemitism riots. By September 2025 it was hosting the Canada First rally, an event that drew thousands of Canadians to protest immigration levels at a moment when housing costs and employment competition had made the abstract personal. The crowd at this rally does not map neatly onto far-right caricature: it includes tradespeople, parents, and immigrants from earlier waves who oppose current levels. The range of motivations expressed in these interviews — and the specific language people reach for — is the primary-source record of a political movement that will require documentation to understand.
