Featuring Renters. The storage unit as living space is not a metaphor for the housing crisis; it is a literal consequence of it.

Who: Renters who have moved into storage units, RVs, or other unconventional spaces after being priced out of standard housing, speaking on camera about their situations

What: Documents people who are now living in storage units because they cannot afford rent — illegally, uncomfortably, and without the basics a rented room would provide. They describe the decision point: the eviction or lease-end that forced them into a storage unit, and what daily life looks like inside one.

Where: United States

When: September 2025

Why: The storage unit as living space is not a metaphor for the housing crisis; it is a literal consequence of it. When people describe moving a mattress into a 10-by-10 concrete box because it costs less than a room, that is a data point the housing cost index does not capture. This footage records those specific circumstances in the people living them.
