I give you Beau Guerrero….singing “Rise Up!” LIVE in Times Square NYC
ManOnTheStreet.com was at ‘Occupy Broadway’ last weekend with Katharine Scarlet Martin wielding the mic while getting some great effort out of the performers there. She quickly zeroed in on the talented Beau Borrero and asked him to perform the piece he wrote explicitly for the ‘Occupy Wallstreet’ movement.
See more at BeauBorrero.com or friend him on facebook.
Beau has his CD on sale here.
Thanks Beau!
Yuksom, Sikkim, 2008. A flat tire yields a Sikkimese cultural bonanza hidden in the woods. This helped to break up a 48 hour journey via bus, share taxi, and horse and buggy from Gangtok, Sikkim to Varanasi, India.
The casual observer cannot help but be overwhelmed upon his arrival to a place as ‘foreign’ as Kolkata, India. Sensory overload was achieved within minutes through all five senses. A place that made Bangkok seem quiet, clean and organized left me gasping for air and stumbling about looking for a new destination.
The ‘meat market’ in the video is an everyday occurrence in Kolkata and you can only imagine it on a hot day. I spent 6 days in Kolkata trudging around in mud only to find out on the fifth day, a day of scorching hot temperatures that I was not trudging around in mud.
I realize the post and accompanying video is kind of mean and that was not my intention. There is surely more to Kolkata than this…I was just not prepared to find it at this point in my trip.
A 120 km trek to 17,000 feet (5000 meters) complete with yaks, rickety bridges, yak fights, washed out roads, a visit inside a yak herders hut for Yak cheese and several Sikkimese ceremonies along the way.
Because of its remote location in Nepal and difficult access from India, the Kangchenjunga region is not too popular with trekkers. It has, therefore, retained much of its pristine beauty. In Sikkim too, traveling into the Kangchenjunga region has just been permitted. The Goecha La trek is gaining popularity amongst tourists. It goes to the Goecha La Pass, located right in front of the huge southeast face of Kangchenjunga. To spend 2 weeks there was mystifying.
